My must see TV. What’s yours?

Caution: This post includes ancient terminology. This is because I live in a cable-ly challenged home. I have no TiVo. I am reduced to using — gasp — a VCR. Horrors!

So the new television season is now into its second month, and here’s how it’s shaken out for me.

Tier 1: obsess over whether the VCR is set right

  • Ugly Betty. I love this character. Betty’s my hero because she gauges her life by her own yardstick, not anyone else’s. Plus, it’s a ridiculously funny show.
  • Law & Order: SVU. Where’s the plain old L&O on the schedule?
  • ER. It’s a hard habit to break
  • Desperate Housewives. I can relate with Lynnette (I’m harried) and Bree (I’m a perfectionist).
  • Brothers & Sisters. (I love watching Rachel Griffith)

Tier 2: good faith efforts to watch or tape
  • Pushing Daisies. One even the kids can watch.
  • Private Practice. 4 storylines per show. 2 are good and 2 are uninteresting to me.
  • Dirty Sexy Money. Mmmmmm, Peter Krause.
  • Grey’s Anatomy. But I still don’t buy any of the characters as doctors/surgeons.

And I have to say, some nights I’d just rather read your blogs.

How about you? What are you sure to watch and/or Tivo?

  1. Ever since we joined Netflix, we watch much less primetime TV, and we’re not good about giving new shows a chance anymore. The ones we always watch are House (Tuesday), My Name is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock (all Thursday), and Lost. I like Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy, but since ABC has them online, I catch up on them at my leisure. I’ll check in on Desperate Housewives every once in a while. Oh, and we’re also still VCR users. No Tivo here.

  3. Thanks for the reminder, Furrow, that I can watch online. My Thursday shows didn’t tape this week, and I just CAN’T miss Ugly Betty.Beagle, you make me laugh!Sunny, I have TiVO envy.KarenO, it’s a wonder we ever get anything done, isn’t it?LJ, I am WAAAAY behind on Mel’s book tour. It’s due next week, but it’s easier to zone in front of the TV. Bad.

  4. Must see shows:Weeds, House, Grey’s, The Office, Shows I am digging:Dirty Sexy Money, Californication, 30 RockShows I watch cause I am a social misfit that can’t be bothered to pick up a good book: Private Practice, Brothers & Sisters

  5. My oh my it’s scary how much we’re alike! We don’t have Pushing Daisies here (yet!) and Law & Order is on another channel when I watch ER, and Private Practice is on it’s way (can’t wait!) All the others are big favorites, especially Grey’s Anatomy. Ok, Brothers and Sisters and Ugly Betty too. Ok, ok, everything! :)

  6. You so need TiVo. I used to stress over the whole vcr thing. HA!I watch so much! Right now I am enjoying Gossip Girl. Just finished Private Practice. LOVE Greys, CSI, America’s Next Top Model and other trashy reality tv, Pushing Daisy’s, Damages, Mad Men, Er (thinking about dropping it. I know it is the last season), Big Shots, Life, the Unit, Journeyman, Heroes, Little People Big World… Get my drift. I LOVE my tv. :) Today is an all day tv day in bed!

  7. Grey’s is my only “watch faithfuly”. I watch, but get annoyed with, Private Practise. The infertility themes make me crazy.Of the new shows, I like Pushing Daisies but I’m curious to see if they can hang on for the long haul. I don’t “get” Ugly Betty. Should I give it another shot? As a former OR nurse, Grey’s cracks me up. I only wish we had all been having that much sex in the broom closets/on-call rooms. No Tivo here either. But I will watch online if I miss a show.

  13. Looks like I am the odd duck here. We don’t have cable either and only get a few channels. Thankfully, we get NBC because our list of must sees are: Heroes, The Office and Battlestar Galactica (If we can find someone with cable to tape it for us). No Tivo here either and we rarely plan ahead so if we miss it, we start asking around our friends with Tivo.
