Perfect Moment Monday: Toil & Soil

Perfect Moment Monday is more about noticing a perfect moment than about creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

We gather here once a week to engage in mindfulness about something that is right with our world. Everyone is welcome to join. Details on how to participate are at the bottom of this post, complete with bloggy bling.

Please visit the link of the participant at the bottom.

Here’s a perfect moment from my week. I hope you’ll share yours, too.
====================================

My perfect moment is a sensation I’ve been getting in my bones this week. I worked hard (alongside my family) over the weekend tilling our garden to ready it for herbs and veggies.

I spend most of my time in my head, because most of the work I do is in my head — I’m very comfortable living there. I don’t often live in my body — one reason why yoga is so important to me. Three hours a week I live in my body. Out of 168.

A whole afternoon of physical labor made me bone-weary, and each time I am aware my digging and lifting muscles I feel powerful. I feel earthy, strong, grounded, and anticipatory of some delicious salads and other concoctions (mojito mint, anyone?), because we literally laid the groundwork for them.

Perfect.

  1. One of the best ways to ground myself is to spend time outside.

I take care of the plants inside and my husband takes care of the plants outside. Then I get to sit outside and enjoy the landscaping.

Absolutely beautiful — the landscaping AND my husband!

  2. I love gardening. Always had a garden when I lived in the Northeast. My house was filled with house plants.
But nearly 5 years ago, I moved to Arizona and my green thumb turned brown. Love desert plants, embrace the subtle changes that come with life in the desert, but can’t keep anything alive. =( Still trying.

Am passing along this Perfect Moment of Sue’s. She had a classic mother-daughter moment this last week.

  7. I can’t wait till next spring when we can attempt a garden again. It is so so hard with all the animals and critters around us but we think we have a perfect solution and that will make a whole lot of perfect moments for me

  9. I love fresh veggies and flowers. I like the idea of gardening. But I run screaming like a banshee at the first sight of a wasp.

  11. What an interesting way of putting it…that you don’t live in your body the majority of the time, but rather in your head. I guess with my desk job I’m the same way, which is a big reason why I’m looking forward to staying at home to raise my daughter. I’m excited to get off my butt and MOVE! And I love projects, the visual sense of completion is so total. One day, the yard looks gross, the next day, it’s beautiful – success!

  13. Sounds great. I keep thinking I would love to have a garden but I just don’t know if I would find the time to keep up with it. For now I’ll stick with my pots.

  15. There is just something about being out in nature and playing in the dirt that is so grounding. I’m not very good at it but am trying to do more of it.
