This is a question I ask my life coaching clients frequently. I think it helps uncover our dreams — underneath the negative voices in our head (our Saboteur).
I ask myself this on a regular basis to help me move forward. And it has led to some pretty big changes in my life.
If I knew I wouldn’t fail, I’d put together a pitch to be featured on national TV and radio shows as a media life coach.
The great thing is that I am taking steps to do just that. I don’t know yet if I will succeed or fail, but I know it won’t happen if I don’t try. 🙂
Yep. How fun–I would love to be able to do something with the knowledge that the pressure was off. No matter what I did, I couldn’t screw it up and things would work out the way I wanted. That would be nice! 🙂
DH and I both specifically chose careers knowing they would bring intellectual and personal fulfillment but not a lot of money, and mostly we do okay, but it would be nice if we didn’t have to worry about money and had an extra chunk of change magically show up — at least enough to cover all the money we spent on IF, which cumulatively is well over a year of my salary.

This is an amazing question. I’m not really sure, but I’m really glad you asked it, and I will be thinking about it until I find an answer.
I think that I think so much about the “what ifs”, which can be a real plus in certain areas of my life and work, but this can hold me back in other ways, especially in creativity.

My first thought when I read this question without a doubt was IVF!!! I was going to say IVF again since the first time we did it, it was successful, and the second time was a huge bust, and due to money, we’re now moving onto adoption for it may take a while, but one day we will succeed and add another child to our family. That said, since I’ve failed at IVF once, I guess I’ll go with a quick way to make a ton of money. I’m tired of living so darn tight with the roof needing to be replaced and saving for an adoption!!!!
Given my recent injury which has resulted in an arm full of titanium supports, I would get back on the ski fields and go really fast. ….. as it stands, if I skied again soon I would go so slow.
What else – I’d like to fly too.
And move to the country and make my own cheese and grow my own vegetables and cook them at a little restaurant that I only had to open when I felt really inspired to cook something great and it would make enough money for me to drink nice wine and travel when I wanted to, and there would always be someone to take good care of the dog and any other animals I had.
As usual, you turn my mind all upside down trying to come up with a good answer!
Right now I am struggling with the money issue like Cassandra… not sure how we are going to get by on one salary for a family of five! So maybe something like becoming a pro football player? Doesn’t seem THAT hard (if you have the natural talent) and it would bring the big bucks.

I’ve asked this question before, too…and the answer is always the same for me: Exactly what I’m already doing.
There is no need to fear failure. Failure helps us go in another direction, helps us see things from a different perspective, and is actually a good way of finding something that doesn’t work. 😉

move to kenya, and spend all my time photographing the country that i love. it would be taking my husband home and me to the place in the world where i truely feel whole.

I’m not really scared of failing, so that fear wouldn’t keep me from doing something BUT I do avoid doing things where rejection is inherent in the process. So if I could do anything and succeed at it, I’d be a singer or actress–two professions out of my ability range.

A get-rich-quick scheme.

I’m sure a love of football would follow, right?

Is this a limited time offer? Because I’d try (almost) everything!
If I knew I couldn’t fail, I would be torn between a get-rich-quick scheme and shape shifting.

I assume “Sleepng with Patrick Dempsey” is not what you’re looking for?
Hm. Sing professionally.
Good question! A hidden side of me is an inventer, so i would try to get a all of my inventions mass produced! I love day dreaming about that.
as soon as I read this I immediately thought, “EVERYTHING!!”
A fear of failure has held me back form so many things and if I knew that whatever I desired to achieve WOULD be achieved there would be stopping me.
The first things I would try would be those secret dreams that are hidden because of thick layers of self-doubt.
For an answer of more depth – I’d change careers to something that was both intellectually fulfilling and made a ton more money than I make now.
Play the lottery.
oh what a question:
sky diving
getting pregnant–several times
singing
trying out for The Amazing Race
writing a novel and living off the profits of my book sales
picking up and moving to my dream location
opening my own business
The list could go on and on
Dating. Looking for the one I would like to share my life with..

I think ‘everything’ is probably understood!
I would really LOVE to be able to sing. In a way that wouldn’t pain other people.

Working full-time as a writer. More like…if I knew I wouldn’t be broke, and keep Mr S up all night worrying about money…
Being happy.
