Perfect Moment Monday: My Special Power

Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

We gather once a week to engage in mindfulness about something that is right with our world. Everyone is welcome to join. Details on how to participate are at the bottom of this post, complete with bloggy bling.

Please visit the links of the participants at the bottom.

Here’s a perfect moment from my week. I hope you’ll share yours, too.

====================================
My 6 year-old son Reed got to talking about the Special Powers of some of the people in his life.

  • Uncle Gino has the powers of Wii.
  • Aunt Tami’s is to serve yummy food and drinks like root beer.
  • Tessa’s is to be the “annoyingest sister but the best sister.”
  • Daddy’s is to heal from being a half-dead big boy.

Mine?

“Mama, your Special Power is to always make kids feel happier when they are sad.”

Why did this bring me a perfect moment? Because I see myself as the opposite, more of a “buck up — you really don’t have anything to complain about” kind of mom. Good to know it’s somehow working for me, for him.

Reed thinks his own Special Power involves his skills as a swordsman (swordsboy?) and a warrior. As honed as those skills are, I think his true Special Power is the kindness swirling in his lion heart.

  1. I think Reed is the kindest little boy I know.

Making kids un-sad is just one of your many special powers.

  2. Maybe you should come visit…my little girl has been telling me that I make her sad (because I tell her NO. Frequently.) and could use someone to cheer her up sometimes. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. What an amazing special power you have. The world would be a better place if more people had that one.

  7. Reed definitely has the special power of “swords-boy-ship” and kindness.

Your special power IS your ability to help kids feel happier, but I can think of so many more special powers you hold. I’ve witnessed them all of my life.

A few that come to mind are your writing abilities, the way you teach and explain, and, of course, your sense of humor…to name a few. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Oh that is so sweet! And I think “special powers” are bettter when you don’t know you have them!

  11. Now that is the kind of special power to have, and it sounds like it’s one he’s learning from you.

  13. So nice! I too feel like a “rub some dirt in it” mom, good to know my kids might think otherwise!

Today my moment was my two year old running open-armed to his brother coming out into the school yard after school. The boys had a huge embrace and the smile on my two year old was priceless!

  14. Heh. That Reed is something else! I love his descriptions of people’s super powers, but his description of yours is just the absolute sweetest thing ever. That’s the kind of thing I hope my future child will think of me, that I can make them feel happier when they are sad.

  15. That has to be the sweetest thing I’ve heard lately! It’s always a beautiful thing when the little ones in our lives let us know how much we mean to them and let us know they think we’re doing alright in their lives ๐Ÿ˜€

  20. I really need to start doing this.

And what a wonderful special super power you have. Mine is simply being schnarky.

But I was wondering how your hubby was doing. I know you’ve mentioned him a bit, but how is he really doing? Still pain?

  21. This made me cry just a little. My mommy has that super-power too.

She’d tickle me and quote some kind of movie and suddenly, I’d be laughing despite myself.
