Perfect Moment Monday: Cycling

June 27, 2010

in Denver, Perfect Moment

Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

Once a week we engage in mindfulness about something that is right with our world. Everyone is welcome to join. Details on how to participate are at the bottom of this post, complete with bloggy bling.

Please visit the links of the participants at the bottom.

Here’s a perfect moment from my week. I hope you’ll share yours, too.

After MUCH more prep time and hassle than anyone expected, my family headed out for a downtown bike ride. Getting everybody fed, hydrated and sunscreened, repairing/tuning up 4 bicycles and 8 tires, as well as loading said bikes into/onto the car turned out to be quite an ordeal. NOT THAT ANYONE LOST HER TEMPER OR ANYTHING. What was supposed to take place in the relative cool of the morning turned out to be a 2 pm launch.  On a day in which temps hit the 90s and the sun was blazing.

Those were not the perfect parts.

Once we hit the bike path, however, the perfect moments began flowing. This was my view of the urban trail and my family on it.

I was so happy noticing this. It was one of those quintessential parenthood moments I once thought would never happen.

We rode along a creek to where its joins a river. Tessa and Reed could not resist doing what everyone else was doing in the shallows of the confluence — just playing around.

Tessa and Reed had their own perfect moments. A week before we had attended a fabulous sangria party at Greeblemonkey‘s house. Tessa and Reed had befriended Dominic and Francesca, roughly my kids’ ages and the children of another guest . Tessa confessed on the way home that she had a little crush on Dominic (and he on her?).

So guess who we ran into while river-dipping at the confluence? Yup, Dominic and Francesca. Tessa and Reed were thrilled.

After a bit we stopped for a snack and headed home. Much happier than when we’d left it.

How sweet.
I love the crush part of this story. How fun for the kids to meet up with their new friends so quickly, so easily.
That does sound perfect.

I still remember bumping into my crush at the lake where we were camping when I was four :-) I’m glad Tessa got that life experience.

Awww, a first crush. That’s awesome.

Thanks for this by the way, I’m excited to spend the week searching for another one – I bet they happen WAY more often than I realize!

Riding in the heat is so worth the fun at the water!

Oh I just love that picture! And how perfect that you got to cool off in the water afterward.

The crushes sound so cute!

I love it when a day turns itself around like that.

I LOVE it…even the “can’t quite get out of the house and on the trail” part. Because that’s real!!!!! I loved the pictures and the story of a great day, even Tessa’s little crush.
it was absolutely perfect, for sure. Just being together.

It’s great when the perfect moments happen after all the frustrating prep work.

I love the pictures. It looks like so much fun!

Sometimes getting ready to have fun is tough…but maybe that makes the fun that much better???

I love your Perfect Moment Mondays! Thank you!

Except for the heat, that sounds like an incredible afternoon.

How sweet that Tessa told you that.
Sounds like a wonderful day.

Fantastic day! I could feel your morning frustrations – been there, done that, and will do it again! It just makes the good part that much better! :)

I just realized I lost your feed. It must have been when you moved, but it seems like I was getting them for a bit.

I LOVES bike riding. Right now I pull the two behind me in a trailer which feels like a parachute loaded with bricks. I’m looking forward to a moment just like yours.

Thanks for your comment on my post about magic. I always look forward to your comments and hearing your views. I think we may find that human beings have ways of communicating that are not conscious.

PS: I’m not surprised your first ride of the season took all day to get going. :)
