Happy blogday to me

Four years and 730 posts ago, my foremother prompted me to bring forth on this blogscape a new space, conceived from nonconception, and dedicated to the proposition that so many ALIs are created fascinating.

On my blogoversary two years ago, I unveiled my Appalachian Trail name, Lavender Luz, and asked you to “tell me if there has been a post that has had a lasting effect on you. Let me know what it was and why you have remembered it. That will be a truly wonderful gift for me, each generating a perfect moment. Thank you!

Would you indulge me again? Please tell me if there has been a post that has stuck with you and why. I’ll compile your answers and update my Reader Faves page.

Thank you for coming to my party!

I’m getting teary-eyed thinking of how much you’ve grown up over the years. :)

I’ve still got my binky. (But at least I’m out of diapers.)

I immediately thought of this post http://lavenderluz.com/2009/06/the-space-between-2.html

(I do miss the little graphic you had back when you were a wobbling weeble.)

So proud to know you. So proud of you. Please keep writing. :)

I like that one, too, QD. Thanks for reminding me. I added this one to the Reader Faves page.

I’m so happy I’ve had the chance to meet you IRL :-)

Happy 4th Blirthday! :) Hmm yeah, I like that better than “blogiversary”. hehe

Have loved reading your blog for a long time now but I’m finding it difficult to pick out one particular post. I most love the posts describing your interactions with your kids. I admire your parenting skills.

Thanks, Jill. I hope one day they agree with you!

Wow, I am going to have to write a little more if I want to keep up with you my friend in my number of blog posts per year :)! I believe your most poignant post that touched my life on a personal level is, “My daughter asks is she’s a bastard…?” It made me want to go ask my bio father’s side of the family if that is why all of them are snubbing me and refuse to even give me a simple picture of him. I wanted to ask my half-siblings on my bio mother’s side of the family that said it didn’t matter, but truthfully it’s what put a strain on our relationships, right? I do understand…it hurt to have our mother’s poor choices staring them in the face.

I wanted to ask my conservative, religious relatives on my adoptive mother’s side of the family if that’s one of the reasons I am not listed on their genealogy. And lastly, I wanted to ask my late adoptive mother how could I have asked her any purely innocent fair questions like your daughter did without fearing her response. Honestly, mom would have said, “JoAnne, you can’t talk that way,” without any regard to way I might be feeling deep inside.

What I have learned from you Lori and admire is that you have shown that it’s possible to have healthy relationships with adoptive children without suffocating them with our own insecurities and shortcomings.

Lavender Luz May 11, 2011 at 7:46 pm

I do wish your late adoptive mother and your extended bio family could/would be more cognizant of YOUR feelings and not just their own. That whole “Treat others” thing…

I’ve added the Bastard Conversation to the Reader Faves page. Thank you for your nomination, JoAnne :-).

Ha, ha, the first post that popped into my mind is the one where you educated us all as to “1 gram of feces” per used pair of underwear. Thanks so much, yet another reason to dislike laundry!
Happy Blogaversary dear lovely Lavender Luzianna, here’s to the next 4 years!!!

Thank you, JJ. I’m happy to be virtual-blog-twins with you!

Martha, I can’t even find that post, but I remember it. It think it got lost in the move. It’s an, ummmm, interesting tidbit to throw around at a cocktail party, don’t you think?

One that really sticks in my mind is the photo of Roger kissing Grandma Marshmallow’s head. I think even if I hadn’t met either of them, I would still find it to be such a powerful image. Having met both, it’s so clear in the post, in the photo, and in real life, what a wonderful son Roger was and continues to be.

Happy Blogoversary! And many mooooore…

Happy Blogday! 4 years is awesome! Congratulations.

So many of your posts have educated me – I think you should be the poster child for open adoption. But one that sticks with me is the one about judging the woman at the fair…

Oh, that Judgy McJudgerson series was one of my personal favorites because it caused me to look critically at my motivations and judgments. Add into Reader Faves.

Thank you, A.

Congratulations! Have you ever wanted to just stop blogging? If so, what kept you going?

Reply

Lavender Luz May 11, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Good question, Shannon! There have been a few times when I’ve wanted to walk away just for a bit. But I’m kind of bound by Perfect Moment Mondays, so during those times I skate by on one post a week.

Blogging has changed the way I move through life. I am always looking for things to write about and examining my thoughts and feelings and assumptions. Lots of navel gazing :-).

Well I’m a relatively new follower so don’t have the history, but the one thing I do appreciate is that when you write it seems so natural….I imagine sitting in a good coffee shop having a conversation with you and enjoying it. That’s what I feel like when I read your posts. 4 years….that’s great!

Loribeth and Dannie — thank you. Dannie, I consider that a very high compliment!

I have no idea why this one particular post sticks in my mind, maybe because I could so clearly picture your expression and read the thoughts behind it. So, like maddening ‘stuck song syndrome’, that one post…I can’t remember what you called it…I call it “No Big Deal.” About the time you were at Starbucks and the bathroom wasn’t functioning in the manner we all take for granted….I mean, It. Was. No. Big. Deal! HaHaHaHaHa! I’m laughing just remembering that post, my friend!

Cake and ice cream for the blogoversary! Congratulations on four amazing years. I have always liked Return to the Well, and I also loved your Perfect Moment recently where you and Roger stood at the window awaiting Reed and Tessa’s return home.

I am also late to the party, but you were in my thoughts (and even in one of my tweets) this week! :) Happy 4th Blogoversary!

As you commented last month in regards to my 4th, I am so glad that we connected and have gotten to know each other better during both of our 4th years of blogging. I have shared this before, but I was aware of you and your blog over the years, but didn’t come around very often (not really sure why). I am glad that your hosting the Life from Scratch book tour for Mel earlier this year, among other things, caught my attention and allowed me to be more formally introduced to you and what you are all about. I see now why you have such a strong and devoted following.

The past few months in my life have been challenging ones for me emotionally for a variety of reasons and I am incredibly grateful for your Perfect Moment Mondays. Though I have always tried to be a half full kinda gal, since I started participating in PMM (blogging about them, linking my posts, reading others and commenting on them), I am finding it even easier to look on the bright side and appreciate the here and now. Thank you my friend.

As for a favorite post, since I have only been reading relatively regularly recently, one that sticks in my mind you not that long ago. It is one of your PMM where you and Roger had gone to FL and spent time with his parents. In the post you wrote about a very special time you spent hanging out and talking on the beach with your mother-in-law (may she rest in peace). It is bittersweet to reflect on the post now knowing that she is no longer in this world with you, Roger and your family. You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve and heal her death.
