Ladies and Leprechauns!

I hereby open the Limerick Chick Contest for 2012.

Valentine’s Day has passed, and that means it’s time for all things green and Irish. And what could be more Irish than wordplay that is eponymous with a county in Ireland?

Kathy of Four of a Kind was the winner in 2011 with:

Rachel Goldman is learning to cook.
Her blog posts are so “off the hook!”
Mix divorce with cuisine
and lots in between,
find out more, read Mel’s Life from Scratch book.

Erica of MotherhoodMeetsMe won in 2010 with:

I’m an Irish gal who drinks whisky
Sometimes I go home and get frisky.
When the good deed is done.
I’m Wishing 4 One.
Or at least eat some spam and some latke.

And Erica also took the trophy in 2009:

I once was scared of the gyno
Now I’ll drop my pants for a rhino
When bad times are worse
There’s blogs like the mrsch
Or instead I can just be a whino

Niobe of Dead Baby Jokes won in 2008.

A blogger whose name is Niobe
Said, “Look, my name sounds like Nairobi
It isn’t ni-OBE
Doesn’t rhyme with microbe
And if you don’t like it, then blow me.”

Kristen of Sticky but Sweet won in 2007.

There once was a group of ladies
Who set out to go and make babies
They became Stirrup Queens
Or so it would seem
Until they all wound up with scabies!

Who will be the winning limericist for 2012?

  6. All readers of this blog are welcome to enter, no matter how you know me or even if you know me, and the subject matter is wide open.
  7. Post the Contestant Button on your sidebar as well as in your limerick post to encourage others to participate and vote.

There is a prize. The winner will get either a $20 contribution to the nonprofit organization of her/his choice or a $20 gift card at Amazon.com.

Yay! It was an honor to win last year and I am excited for this year’s contest! So fun to read everyone’s entries! I tried to link up, but am not seeing it above. I tried to re-enter and it said that I had already entered and that maybe you were moderating the entries?! Anyway, looking forward to reading the other entries! :)

You know how when you walk into a math exam how you get that fluttery anxious feeling? That’s how I just felt when I opened Reader and saw the Limerick announcement. I have got to get my rhyme on.

Gina @ Special Happens February 16, 2012 at 11:06 am

This looks like such fun! I’m going to have to get my creative juices flowing!

Kristin February 18, 2012 at 6:09 pm

Hmmm….gotta figure out who I’m going to write about.

I;m not even going to attempt, only because it will probably end up offensive or naughty…or both if we’re lucky :)

I never met a limerick I didn’t like. Okay. That’s not true. I don’t know if I have the chops to enter, but I’ll share to up the entries.

Daria @ Mom in Management February 21, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Did I read the definition right? Is it supposed to be a little naughty? 5 lines, rhyme scheme of AABBA and mention a blogger – is that the formula?

Lavender Luz February 21, 2012 at 6:27 pm

Naughty or not. The main thing is to have fun doing it!

You’ve got the rest correct :-)

Cara February 21, 2012 at 8:50 pm

Being a mom can be hard
It certainly contributed to this extra lard
I was blessed with three boys
They refuse to pick up their toys
But with the help of Macaroni Kid, I have yet to blow my lid!

Kim Leatherdale February 23, 2012 at 5:51 pm

There once was a bantering bird
whose song was like none ever heard.
She met with a guru
who taught her what he knew,
and she flew away singing, “What merde!”

Erica February 29, 2012 at 6:45 pm

where is linky tool?

Lavender Luz February 29, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Grrr….WP and the linky script sometimes fight. I fixed it and added you link. Will head over myself soon!
