Time Warp Tuesday: Blogoversaries

I’m participating in Time Warp Tuesday, the monthly bloghop offered by Kathy at Bereaved and Blessed. This week’s theme is Blogoversaries, and our assignment is to:

Choose a blog entry from your archives that you wrote around the time of, one of your Blogoversaries. Then write a new post on your blog about why you chose the post that you did and what has happened in your life since.

I’m going back to May of 2009 when I celebrated my 2nd blogoversary. In this post I chose and explained my Appalachian Trail name, Lori Lavender Luz. And I did something Emily Post would abhor — I begged for presents. I asked visitors to my blog to let me know which of my posts had left an imprint on them and I turned the results into a Page in my navigation bar called Readers’ Choice. Those comments were the best. bloggy gifts. evah.

What has happened since then — what has changed? For one thing I’m less prolific with my blog posts. My first two years I averaged 18 posts a month. In the nearly 3 years that have followed, I’ve averaged 11 (much of my writing energy is going into a book.) My kids are now grade-schoolers with more independence and even bigger personalities (I wouldn’t have believed that possible back in 2009). And since then in my family circle I have experienced a severe accident, illness, life and death.

  1. So happy that you decided to do the Time Warp again this month! I loved going back in time to read your second blogoverary post, especially since I didn’t really know you then (thought as we recently discovered our paths have crossed a few times before we stuck). It was interesting to see how you chose your Appalachian Trail name. I have always appreciated yours and Mel’s, but for some reason never came up with one for myself, even now that I am five years in and counting. I guess it’s never too late and will have to think about it some more.

I gushed a lot on the post you directed us to revisit here, so I won’t go on and on, but I feel very blessed and lucky to be in your orbit and call you my friend. I am inspired by how many hearts and minds you have touched and opened in your almost five years of blogging. I can’t wait to read the book you are writing (which is a fabulous reason to have had to cut back a bit on blogging) and meet you in person in August at BlogHer when we get to speak on the ALI Bloggers panel together! You have come along way over the past three years and I am very proud of you! I definitely think the experiences you referenced and linked to at the end of your posts have added to your character and compassion, as much as they have also been extremely challenging to live through.

Thanks again for your support of my Time Warp Tuesday blog hop and me and my blog in general as I celebrate my 5th Blogoversary today! I definitely would not be where I am today (including my new space/URL) if it weren’t for your positive influence in my life. Okay, so much for not going on and on, right?! xoxo

  2. Oh, my, even 11 posts a month is impressive my friend. My one blog post about my fathers got a number of new subscribers, so I am just a little slower out of the starting gate.

  3. Thanks for the comments today. I’m a new-ish regular reader of yours, though I’m not a frequent commenter. I loved reading your 2-year blogoversary post and going back to finally figure out why Mel’s name was Lollipop Goldstein. Mystery solved!

  4. I LOVE the idea of asking readers for their favorite posts. I just might “borrow” that from you for my next blogoversary. An absolutely fabulous idea. I can’t wait to check out your post and find out the origin of your amazing name! This is a prodigious TWT indeed!
