Crazy 8

Hi.       I’m this blog.      I’m 8 years old today.     Here is my life story so far.

8th blogoversary

I was born a poor, blogspot template and I was originally known as WeeblesWobblog. My midwives hailed from the ALI community (Adoption / Loss/ Infertility), prompting my birth and nourishing me in my early days (and now).

Within a couple of years, I grew bigger and caught the attention of a certain toy company. It sent my creator a cease and desist order which led to a name change for me. My person had already chosen her Appellation Trail name,  Lavender Luz, which ultimately became my name, too, through a second and final name change.

Over the years I got to go to some conferences that were set up just for blogs like me, and my person got to know the people behind so many other fantastic blogs. We all had a grand old time figuring out how to grow and morph and monetize (or not) and connect, and most of all, to own and enjoy our space.

When I was almost 5, I found out I was going to have a younger sibling. Not a brother, not a sister, not even another blog, but a book!

Lori Holden's book on open adoptionMy sibling.

My person has dabbled in other sorts of blogginess — writing occasionally for a big time site, writing a regular column locally, and even reading one of my entries in front of a live audience.

8th blog birthday

But she’ll always consider me the heart of her bloggy life.

Yes, this is all very self-indulgent. But what did you expect? I’m EIGHT.   And I’m a BLOG.

Happy Blogoversary to Me

So stick with me one more step. I’m asking you for a present. Please indulge me just one bit more and tell me as you munch on a virtual cupcake,

What brings you here?

This post is part of #Microblog Mondays. What’s that? A post that is not too long. Head over to Stirrup Queens to join the fun.

  1. Love how you shared your life story! 🙂 Congrats on 8 years! I am so glad that I found you about 4 years ago and got to know your person! What brings me here? I love your parenting advice and tips on mindful living. Also, being the aunt of two adopted children, I am grateful for all that you share about embracing open adoption. Loved your book, by the way! 🙂 I know I don’t visit as much I as I used to, but it doesn’t mean I love you any less. Cheers to 8 years! xoxo

    1. Oh, Kathy, this journey wouldn’t be near as enjoyable without the times we share together. Thank you so much for your kind words on my special day!

  2. What brings me here?

    Divine intervention!

Congratulations to you on 8 years!! So glad to have made the connection with you 🙂

  3. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY…
so glad you’re in my world, that I’ve read your words, felt your hugs in person and am your “Penelope Sunshine”.

THANK YOU for sharing yourself with us. The world is better with you in it. xoxo

  4. I did not realize that your were so OLD! Congratulations on your grand adventure! I love everything you have to say. You are brilliant, funny, kind and honest. All things a blog should be.
    Happy Birthday!

  5. Happy sweet 8th blogoversary, dear heart. What brought me here was that you were right after #7, little one. You are always full of love and enlightenment, encouragement and compassion. A little light to help us find the way!

  6. Happy blogoversary! What brings me here today is Microblog Mondays but what brings me here regularly is thoughtful commentary about adoption. Sometimes I see stories about adoptive parents not being thoughtful or open and I think to myself, “goodness, the adoptive parents I know are not like that at all!” but, then again, almost every adoptive parent I know has been brought up in the Lavender Luz school and are the better for it 🙂

  7. I think what originally brought me here were your comments on both my own blog & others, as well as your participation in the Stirrup Queen’s book club. 🙂 What keeps me coming back is your personal story, your expertise on a subject I find fascinating (how to navigate open adoption), your sense of balance & generosity — and your sense of humour. 🙂 Happy blogoversary!! and long may you rock. 🙂

  8. Happy blogoversary to you, happy blogoversary to you, happy blogoversary dear Lori, happy blogoversary to you.

I can’t believe it has been 8 years. Your little blog is growing breast buds! And will soon need a bra. And may even get her period in the next few years. Of course, she may be entering her growth spurt. Should we expect many many many more posts this year? Hint, hint?

  9. Congratulations on 8 awesome years! I don’t think I realized you were also WeeblesWobblog once upon a time. I love your posts, and your book–LOVE your book. I found you through Microblog Mondays, and your thoughtful comments and emails. As I’ve been navigating the world of domestic adoption recently, you have been SO helpful and I appreciate your support and readiness to share, from adoption to hoya plants. Now I want a non-virtual cupcake… 🙂

  10. Happy Blogoversary! 🙂

What brings me here? Your person, little blog. She is quite the amazing human being, and I love her story as much as I love yours.

    *hugs* to you, Lori!!

  11. I’ve been trying to remember back when we first met and I started reading your blog … a number of years ago my friend. I would love to see the best of the best of your blog posts be in a book. I know I’ve missed reading some important ones along the way. I believe yours is a valuable voice in the Adoption Community. For me personally, you have always been so kind, loving and encouraging. Unfortunately, something I missed from my own adoptive family. Keep writing and sharing from your heart Lori.

  12. Happy Bloggerversary!

What brings me here? Not only the thoughtful words on adoption and openness, but the inclusion of birth parents and adoptees in the conversation.

  13. Why do I come here? What a great question to ask. I may borrow it when my bloggy birthday rolls around. 😉

I come here because you are wise and kind and my heart and mind are opened by reading your words. I come here because your path to parenthood was different than mine and I want to learn what that path has entailed and how it has shaped the lives of those involved.

I come here because I consider you a mentor and I strive to be more like you and reading your words is one way to understand how you have the strength to be as open-hearted as you are.

Thank you for writing and for being my friend. My life is so much fuller for knowing you.

  14. Happy crazy 8!!!!! Thank goodness for Stirrup Queens , otherwise I would have never have found you! Thank goodness for YOU, otherwise I would have self-combusted during my adoption journey and probably would have made some very poor reactive decisions!!! YOU bring me here because you ground me and centre me in my adoption journey. For that, I am always eternally grateful!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo Even if I don’t blog or read as much as I need to, YOU are always here. Love it. Love YOU! Thank you and congratulations!!!

  15. Yay! Happy Blog Day! Thank you for all you do for the kids and spreading your words of wisdom. Eat a few cupcakes for me!

  16. What brings me here? Your person shared this post with me on Google+. And I am so glad that she did. Thanks to her, I will now see my own blog in quite a different way. It is just a little over a year old, and its personality is still emerging. But now I can’t wait to get to know it better! Happy birthday – and thanks for the calorie-free cupcake!

    1. Susan, thanks so much for the visit, especially on this day. It’s nice to meet you (thanks to my person) and share a cupcake. Off to visit you now.

  17. Your beautiful spirit … your compassionate embrace … your ability to ‘own’ your story and your commitment to help others do the same…

  18. Eight years is no small feat. Congratulations, Lori! And you – you brought me here. For all the reasons Pamela mentioned.

  19. I’ve sort of been out of the loop recently and have just caught up (sort of) with my reading. So glad I found out about your blog’s 8th birthday. That is quite an accomplishment!

What brought me here in the first place? I’m an adoptive mom, too. However, my adoptive experience was from a very different era. Your posts nudged me into the 21st century and helped me see adoption from the adoptee’s side. And also made me realize how unfair many States’ adoption laws are. Your words have turned me into an adoption activist! Wow! Thank you for opening my eyes and my heart!
Keep up the good work. I hope you have many more years with your blog – I like to think of it as the “Little Blog that Could” – and it can – because of you. ❤️

  20. Happy Birthday!!! 🙂
Blogging almost seems “old school” now, but your blog and so many others helped me start out anonymously and do live journaling, which helped me find my way as an adopted person. The online connections almost seem more supportive and real than any others for those of us who are touched by adoption. I appreciate you and your voice so much. <3
