Poll is open: Limerick Chick 2012 Round 1

Eight poems came in under the wire
Five lines each has to inspire
They mention blog friends
The fun never ends
Of reading them, I do not tire.

Eight entries have been divided into two flights. Below you’ll find four entries for the first set. Vote for your favorite one by Wednesday morning (poll is active for 72 hours from the time of posting).

The top vote-getter will advance to the Final round, which begins Friday, March 11. On St Patrick’s Day, I’ll announce the winning limerick, according to the voters. I am so glad I don’t have to make the decision, because as always, each of the entries is absolutely limericious.

Flight 1 entries

1. Kathy
For years she was known as Calliope,
designing mastheads and caring for Mille.
When W was born,
mothering became her new norm.
Dresden ditched her alias and felt free.

2. Kim Leatherdale

There once was a bantering bird
whose song was like none ever heard.
She met with a guru
who taught her what he knew,
and she flew away singing, “What merde!”

3. Lakewood, CO Macaroni Kid

Being a mom can be hard
It certainly contributed to this extra lard
I was blessed with three boys
They refuse to pick up their toys
But with the help of Macaroni Kid, I have yet to blow my lid!

4. Keiko Zoll

Who’s the gangsta who makes blogging foxy?
This rockstar who knocks off my socks, see –
she’s a Smart One (with sass)
who takes names and kicks ass;
she’s The Smartness: JW Moxie!

Congratulations to Keiko, who advances to the Final Round!

6th Annual Limerick Chick Contest: Let the rhymes begin!

Ladies and Leprechauns!

I hereby open the Limerick Chick Contest for 2012.

Valentine’s Day has passed, and that means it’s time for all things green and Irish. And what could be more Irish than wordplay that is eponymous with a county in Ireland?

Kathy of Four of a Kind was the winner in 2011 with:

Rachel Goldman is learning to cook.
Her blog posts are so “off the hook!”
Mix divorce with cuisine
and lots in between,
find out more, read Mel’s Life from Scratch book.

Erica of MotherhoodMeetsMe won in 2010 with:

I’m an Irish gal who drinks whisky
Sometimes I go home and get frisky.
When the good deed is done.
I’m Wishing 4 One.
Or at least eat some spam and some latke.

And Erica also took the trophy in 2009:

I once was scared of the gyno
Now I’ll drop my pants for a rhino
When bad times are worse
There’s blogs like the mrsch
Or instead I can just be a whino

Niobe of Dead Baby Jokes won in 2008.

A blogger whose name is Niobe
Said, “Look, my name sounds like Nairobi
It isn’t ni-OBE
Doesn’t rhyme with microbe
And if you don’t like it, then blow me.”

Kristen of Sticky but Sweet won in 2007.

There once was a group of ladies
Who set out to go and make babies
They became Stirrup Queens
Or so it would seem
Until they all wound up with scabies!

Who will be the winning limericist for 2012?

Oh, and would you please Like my new Page on Facebook?

And the shamrock goes to…

……………………………………….drumroll, please……………………………………

Congratulations to Kathy at Four of a Kind! Her entry, about Melissa Ford‘s book Life from Scratch (don’t you think it should be made into a movie, starring Lea Michele?),  garnered  42% of the 140 votes cast.

Rachel Goldman is learning to cook.
Her blog posts are so “off the hook!”
Mix divorce with cuisine
and lots in between,
find out more, read Mel’s Life from Scratch book.

Marge in Real Life and CabbageNews had lots of fans, too, and I declare everyone who ventured an entry a winner.

With her winnings, Kathy is supporting the book,  A Gift of Time: Continuing Your Pregnancy When Your Baby’s Life is Expected to Be Brief by Amy Kuebelbeck and Dr. Deborah L. Davis. She’s holding a book tour later this month, so click over if you’d like to tune in.

Thanks to each of the entrants and finalists and voters — we’ll do it all again next year.

Happy St Patrick’s Day, peoples.
