What I did on a dare…and it felt great.

I’m slow to the party, but awhile back Angela Klocke started her Triple Dare Tuesday meme. This particular week the Triple Dare was to do something totally new.Which I did this afternoon.

After a workout at the gym, I walked to the adjacent Sunflower Market. I bought my groceries and walked back to my car with my iPod still playing.

Voices Carry by ‘Til Tuesday came on (love, love, LOVE Aimee Mann). I sooooo wanted to sing along, but what if someone heard me? I’d be mortified! But I soooooooo wanted to sing along.

Have I mentioned I soooooo wanted to sing along? Ummm, loudly? It was a beautiful September day, in which a perfect moment could be had by singing to a great song with catchy lyrics and an up beat. But there were people around. What would they think?

I remembered Angela’s dare and, the photo of her freewheeling cartwheel.

Inspired, I did it. As I walked through the parking lot, I sang, “Hush, hush. Keep it down now. Voices carry. Ooooh Ooooh Ooooh…” I wondered what I sounded like without the background music. I wondered what people thought. I wondered if I was breaking the law.It felt really weird. And liberating. And joyful!

So now, I triple dare YOU (even though it’s not Tuesday). Post your results here (and on Angela’s blog).

  1. How totally appropriate. I’m probably being dense in pointing this out, cause you probably knew this, but do you remember the video for Voices Carry? At the end, Aimee Mann sings the lyrics in the audience of a stuffy play, and won’t be quiet, even at the urging of her asshole boyfriend. Just thought of that as you wrote…

  2. Yikes, Lori! I sing just about every week in front of 200 or so at church, and I’m not sure I would give this a try… lol.Kudos to you! 🙂/and I LOVE that song, too

  3. LJ — you’re right! I’d forgotten that powerful scene as she finds her voice! How appropriate I found my voice, too. Thanks, ladies for the cheers. But, then again, you didn’t have to hear me 😉

  4. Ok! When I feel the calling to do something out of my comfort zone, I will do it and let you know. What fun!

  7. Hehehe ok, I’ll take up the dare. Going away for a whole week, and I’ll find something different to do while I’m there. Will report back next week ok? 🙂You’re soooooo brave singing out loud in the parking lot, I don’t think I would’ve been able to do that!

  8. Furrow, I wish we were cubicle-mates.Rob — lol! Maybe it would have been better if I’d had your new guitar. Kind of the Maria von Trapp thing (except I don’t play)Kami, holding you to it.

  9. Cool! I love Aimee Mann, too. I’ll have to find a totally different dare. I sing out loud all the time. Just ask my co-workers.
