I must admit that when going to someone’s house for the first time, I love to check out what books are on the shelves. It’s a good way to find commonalities and topics of conversation. It’s like a secret peek into someone’s values.
When I look at one of our Walls o’ Books, I know that I married the right man — a fellow bibliophile. Anyone who judges me on the books that I have will think I’m very, very smart. Truth is, most of the consequential ones are Rob’s. He was the English major.
But I have my own impressive stash, too. Ours are completely commingled after so many years of marriage. We are such reading geeks that when we DO get away together for a weekend, we luxuriate not only in each other, but in a stack of reading material that is much too big to ever get through.

When I walk into someone else’s home or office, I love to see what kind of books they read. I’m sure people wonder at the collection I have — some serious business books, some self help, and many on metaphysical topics like Tarot, intuition, energy work, spirituality, and chakras. My books are a reflection of my many interests.
I will do this–I just have to hook up the camera. Though there are a lot of them…

Ack! I’m late in reading this…need to get busy. Good assignment for a rainy, cloudy morning. I’ll be back later. (P.S. I’m an English literature major and love to lose myself in a book. Though we’ve gone through periodic bouts of donating to make room for more.)
My books are like my children, only better behaved.I hafta check out shelfari, Beagle.M — it would be even more impressive if I’d actually <>read<> Infinite Jest.
I love the size of your collection. I used to have that many books, though most were grad school purchases. Many of those are now in boxes from when we moved 2 1/2 years ago. Shameful, I know. Because I DO love books. And I DO believe that the internet, though an amazingly wonderful tool, is diluting our ability to pass a love for the feel of books in our hands on to our offspring.And I am jealous that your husband loves to read. My husband dislikes reading. Unless it is a photography manual or a money-related magazine. I have tried everything – buying any and every topic I could think of that might compel him to read a real book. To no avail.XOXO
We don’t have a ton of books. We have a small house and those we have tend to get stored in boxes. Plus we are big fans of the local library.But we do check out other people’s books and a weekend away always has a good book. In fact, we each read over 1000 pages on our honeymoon. We even read each other to sleep at night. You can’t go wrong with a good book!

Another one who loves checking out other people’s book collections. Yours looks as big as ours! Hoping to do this on my own blog in the next day or two…
