I wanna be sedated too.

Noon: I’m on my handheld.

We just cajoled Tessa to drink the dem.erol and wear the nitrous mask. Now she is in the hands of others. (It wasn’t easy. Her Stubborn was in high gear.)

I’m verklempt and turning to my solace, you.

###

3:30 pm: Ahhhhhh. We’re home. The dem.erol is wearing off and Tessa is doing great. The root canal went as well as possible.

I am so relieved.

We have been watching the video of her birth. The day I suddenly became a mom.

Seven years into parenting, I still have moments where I don’t feel very mom-ish. I can’t believe I am the one who is trusted to keep things together. I don’t always feel like the strong one. I often want MY mom.

Later, as Excavator suggests, I will mix myself a mojito. Not quite as tranquilizing as dem.erol, but you never know when I’ll need to be the strong one.

###

Even though Tessa’s tooth has died, the dentists are trying to keep her root growing for the next 10+ years, until she can have an implant. For her best chance, she’ll need part 2 of this root canal next month.

I am so grateful to you all for holding us in your thoughts today. I can tell they worked because things went off without a hitch. I’ll be hitting you up again in mid-June.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  3. {{{HUGS}}} It’s so hard sometimes! I’m glad everyon made it through the day. Sit back and relax for a bit!

  4. Sending so many good thoughts to Tessa. And to you too. It’s funny, I was having a conversation with a co-volunteer yesterday and she needed me to make this correction and it meant I had to go back to my parent’s house and ask my Dad for help. Seriously, I’m turning 34 in a few weeks and I still need my Mommy and Daddy. On a regular basis. It’s not just you.

  5. Sending lots of love for you and Tessa. As soon as you are able, let us know how you all are.(No one would have to convince ME to drink the demerol)Sip a mojito or 3 once you have her home asleep and you can let down a bit.Lots of love.

  9. Hooray!I’m so glad it went well…i’ve been a lazy commenter lately but I’ve kept Tessa, and you, in my thoughts.I have no doubt you are an incredible mother — and I’m certain that Tessa will grow into a strong woman, embracing of her moments of strengths, and those moments we allow others to be the strong ones– because her mother showed her such an amazing example.XOPam

  10. Jesus, this must’ve been a very hard day, giving her over. Have a mojito (that’s what I assume you’re holding in your clicker image), and enjoy – you deserve it.

  11. I’m so glad that things went smoothly today and that you got through it in one piece. Thinking good thoughts for your family, and especially for Tessa’s root.

  12. Between Brad and I we have exactly zero parents who can fulfill that nurturing role for us. I understand that need to the extent that during the really tough times, I make one up. May you and Tessa and the tooth get through this.

  13. I hope she’s recovering well! And, you, too! You’re doing all the right things for her. She is in the best hands she could possibly be. *hugs*

  14. Wonderful to hear some GOOD news re: the tooth chronicles. Hugs to you, and I 2nd (or 14th) that Mojito suggestion!
