Perfect Moment Monday: Super Troupers

Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than about creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

We gather here once a week to engage in mindfulness about something that is right with our world. Everyone is welcome to join. Details on how to participate are at the bottom of this post, complete with bloggy bling.

Please visit the links of the participants at the bottom.

Here’s a perfect moment from my week. I hope you’ll share yours, too.

====================================
Dang. I just had a dance-oriented perfect moment last week, and now I have another one this week. Oh, well. When you gotta dance, you gotta dance. There are worse things to have in abundance.

My Dad’s birthday was this weekend. He loves ABBA. Loud ABBA. He’s always had maximum-strength sound systems in his home and cars so he can listen to music he loves full force. Love that about him.

For his birthday, we (Tami and family, Mom and Dad, Tessa and I) attended the Mamma Mia! singalong in the glorious Chautauqua pavilion. We saw the movie on the big screen (with song subtitles) and were also encouraged to, well, sing along.

Certain songs made the audience get up and dance. Well, most of them, actually. But one song — Dancing Queen — propelled a flood of moms and daughters to the stage, despite the protests of one poor stage manager, who in the dark must have been wondering if the building’s liability policy had been paid.

So picture me leading Tessa to the stage, joining two hundred other exuberant revelers to sing, no matter how talented, and wave our arms, indulging our inner Agnethas.

Elated, free and perfect.

  1. I really wanted to like that movie… I love singing and dancing and Colin Firth *swoon*. But I just couldn’t get into it! Maybe the singalong version would have gotten me moving. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. That’s such a great song! It’s so full of life and energy. I think that’s why I loved Mamma Mia so much, as it captured the joy of dancing and the mother/daughter relationship in the midst of that joy.

  4. The funny thing is, I saw the play on Broadway a couple of years ago, and it was AWFUL! My friend actually walked out of the theatre mid-show.

I had no plans to see the movie. I thought Mom had made plans to see an ABBA tribute band.

But, due to the interactive nature, this was way better.

  5. He does like LOUD ABBA. I wish I could have joined you. We would have been singing and dancing along too.

It sounds like a lot of fun!

  6. We recently saw that movie–we are not big ABBA fans, but I thought Meryl Streep and Pierce Bronson did a great job.

Sing alongs are soo much fun–it sounds like a great time!

  7. Like sunny, I kinda hated the movie, which is sad, because I LOVE ABBA. “Muriel’s Wedding” is pretty much perfection because of them. The singalong sounds like a beyond fabulous time

  8. I must have been in the car too much when Abba was popular the first time around because all of the songs drive me crazy. I think I just heard them waaaaayyy too often.
But so glad there are people like your dad to keep that feeling alive. I’ll think of him next time someone pulls up beside me at a stop light with the music blaring….

  29. Not an Abba fan. I like my music a little rougher, a little raw.

A few years ago someone sent me an article Dave Barry wrote about his colonoscopy. The proceedings had a “Dancing Queen” soundtrack.

I’ll never think of that song again.

So, this perfect moment thing–does it have to happen on the same Monday you post it? Oh, literal-minded me.

  31. P.S. I remember your dad loving to play his music so he can feel it. I’m remembering, “Tradition!!!!!!” (Fiddler On the Roof), and “Jesus Christ! Superstar! Tell us that You’re Who they say you are!”

  33. I’m smiling just thinking about your dance. What a great feeling to enjoy dancing and singing surrounded by others doing the same.
