Perfect Moment Monday: Sound and silence

Snowcation rations

Family weekend in the mountains — the Christmas present that my family-of-origin gave to each other.

Two parents, two sisters, two brothers-in-law. One husband, two children, four nephews. Four vehicles full of groceries and supplies. Some of us skiing, some snow boarding, some tubing. Puzzles, hot chocolate, sing-alongs.

Washtub bass and other noisemakers

Cacophony. Familiar sounds of the members of my clan playing, explaining, cooking, planning, cleaning, teasing, arguing, strategizing, analyzing, bantering. These are the sounds of my soul.

~~~
I bundle up for a little solitude. Walk outside away from cabin noise and, of course, city sounds. Pine trees reach to the stars in a dark sky. Silence falls on the 3-foot blanket of snow. I listen to the void and make it part of me.
I have it all. All that matters, anyway.
  1. It was fast but fun! You have the greatest family, and I’m an authority on the subject! I love the night sky and the stars. They can make me feel small and centered, while realizing I’m the center of my universe.
    I’m still wondering what happened to the Sea Salt Caramel Truffle Ice Cream?
  2. What!? You mean you weren’t holed up in the closet with your laptop secretly blogging? You’ve come a long way, baaaaaby!
  3. I had several Perfect Moments over the weekend (I love my family)…but I deny that any of those Perfect Moments had anything to do with Sea Salt Caramel Truffle Ice Cream.**
    It wasn’t me either.
    **fingers crossed behind my back**
    (p.s. Ya leave early and you lose all claims to the ice cream…not mentioning any names). Just sayin’!!
  4. I got plenty of ice cream. And ice cream’s plenty for me.
    I’m just wondering how I missed the hot tubbing and ping pong?
