  1. “Through the personal stories of those living in the true spirit of openness, this book is a journey towards cultivating an “open-hearted” approach to adoption that can help adopted children grow up whole.”

Fingers crossed! The book sounds great!

  2. This seems like a good one:

“The author shares great wisdom and insight along with many significant perspectives in the adoption constellation, illustrating why and how real openness benefits adopted people and their families.”

I really have to get a hold of this book! ๐Ÿ™‚ (I will – when I’m in the mood for reality instead of silly escapism – otherwise, I won’t read it properly.) And, really, why $85?

  3. I liked this one:

“This book is truly a gift to everyone in the adoption community, from adoptive parents to birth parents to those who work at adoption agencies and anyone else that is related to or who cares about someone in the ‘adoption constellation’ ” (from Kathy).

Happy weekend to you too! Looking forward to celebrating our very first Father’s Day. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. quote from an Amazon review of the book: “Finally, just a note that as a lesbian mom, I’m always on the lookout for resources that speak to my unique experience. Lori’s writing is VERY inclusive. While I hope that she’ll include more LGBTQ voices in her second edition, I appreciate her accessible approach to describing the variety of ways we come together as families, including donors, stepparents, and more.”

love that the author is inclusive of all families! Fingers crossed! We’d really love a copy of this book, it sounds amazing! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. quote from an Amazon review “I know from personal experience that the author is an expert on this subject. She is someone I would look to if I had any question about this topic! Written in a easy to read manner, the book flows and keeps the reader invested in such an important topic. From love to the practical realities of life, The Open-Hearted Way to Open Adoption is a must have!”

This book sounds amazing!!! I would love to read it…probably cover to cover in a day and then many times after! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for the opportunity!

  6. I am always interested in learning from others prospective on open adoption, I have read several of your blogs and have found them to be a positive and healthy respresentation of what a healthy Open Adoption should look like. I would enjoy reading your book ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I’d love to read the book and see what Open Adoption is supposed to truly be…in my own experiences it hasn’t been a positive experience. Perhaps the book will help assist me in understanding more about the benefits of open adoption and possibly help me to help my children understand why things can’t be as picture perfect as other open adoptions.

  8. I love the reviews left so far: “It’s unusual for a book to provide two sets of perspective of the same events, but this fits well with Lori’s approach, which is full of empathy and mostly asks everyone to wonder how we would feel in someone else’s shoes, whether the child (of main importance to everyone involved) or an adoptive mother or first mother.” ๐Ÿ™‚ I couldn’t agree more.

  9. quote from Amazon review: While adoption is the specific subject, this book is also about Truth: Clarity, Honesty, Trust (pg 81). It’s about strength in vulnerability. It’s about the magic that happens when authentic connections are made.

I’m really eager to read this book as our children age, and we learn to navigate open adoption in new ways.

  10. I would love to know other peoples experiences and how I can turn this train wreck of an open adoption into something better.

  11. Amazon Quote: “Ok, so there’s no road map to being a mom.”

I know it’s a short quote but it is fitting for all of us parents, biological and adoptive. Can’t wait to get my paws on a copy of this book!

  12. ‘I am grateful for all that I have learned from Lori about open adoption.’

And I am, as well. Everything I’ve learned about open adoption has positively impacted my ability to appreciate and cope with my family, which wasn’t even built by adoption. I smell a blog post idea…:)

  13. Hello! We are Matt and Trey from Johnson City, TN and we are on our journey to become parents through open adoption in late summer. As a same-sex couple we are trying to share the positive message of becoming gay dads. We would love to receive the extra copy.

  14. I would love to read this as we start our journey! This was my favorite quote “aiming to “de-freakify” open adoption,” as it all does seem pretty foreign to us right now!

  15. “This book is a journey towards cultivating an “open-hearted” approach to adoption that can help adopted children grow up whole.” This quote hits home for me. We have an extremely open adoption because we truly believe it will help him to grow up whole. Our family, on the other hand, thinks we are “freaks” and questions our actions regularly. I’d love to win this book to help our families understand open adoption better and accept the decisions we’ve made for our son.

  16. I like this one: “My favorite line from this book was this: “…neither party [first parents or adoptive parents] is less than the other. While both sides may be grateful to one another, neither side is beholden…there is mutual respect, mutual trust, and a striving for equal footing” (page 49). Reading this made me cheer out loud. Finally, FINALLY, someone else has put in writing what we have been striving for in creating a family for our daughter: a relationship based in mutual giving and receiving.

How nice of the winner to offer up the other book for a giveaway! I need another copy, because the copy I was going to give to X’s first-mom ended up going to the mother of A, our failed match. I cringe everytime I remember that I wrote “We love you” to her on the inside flap. Wonder if the book is in the trash already. ๐Ÿ™

  17. Quote from Amazon Review – It’s unusual for a book to provide two sets of perspective of the same events, but this fits well with Lori’s approach, which is full of empathy and mostly asks everyone to wonder how we would feel in someone else’s shoes, whether the child (of main importance to everyone involved) or an adoptive mother or first mother. “What you can expect when you open your heart and mind to a reasonable relationship with your child’s other parents is a better chance at long-term happiness and wholeness for you and for your child,” says Lori.

My comment – I can’t wait to read this amazing book! As an adoptee, I support open adoption and the healing that adoptive parents can foster by working with biological parents…no more secrets, yes! TY Lori for writing this and putting the information out there so we can all heal!

  18. I’ve gotta quote Amy C because, well, I’ve got to. “This book is more than a mere “how-to” guide to open adoption. Through the personal stories of those living in the true spirit of openness, this book is a journey towards cultivating an “open-hearted” approach to adoption that can help adopted children grow up whole. The author shares great wisdom and insight along with many significant perspectives in the adoption constellation, illustrating why and how real openness benefits adopted people and their families. A must read not only for anyone considering adoption, but for families extended and blended through adoption as well as other non-traditional ways of family building. I wish this book had been around years ago!”

Totally agree I wish this book had been around years ago. Very glad it’s around now!

  20. My plans for this weekend – interviewing a young woman who will hopefully become Tucker’s first real babysitter! EEK. and Phew. I still need to read your wonderful book!
