Not long ago, I posted about my real-life friend, Mary Beth, and her burgeoning talent in photography.
I asked her via that post if she would take our annual portraits, which have always been tortuous days of cowlicks, ketchup stains, ill-timed grumpiness, and asynchronous smiles.
Graciously, Mary Beth didn’t even make me say “pretty please.” Instead, she invited us to her Secret Beautiful Place and gave a Sunday afternoon to us. Here’s a sample of what she captured. (I’ve chosen fairly anonymous shots, due to an agreement I have with my husband about the limits of my blogging.)
Tessa had just had her birthday mani-pedi.
At the right time of day, they make you look 10 pounds lighter!
If you thought these were impressive, you should see the shots with faces. MB is a lady of immeasurable talent. I’m so glad that this year we broke the bonds of chain store portraits and entrusted our moment in time with her.

Those are great; I love them!! (And, you didn’t even have to figure out how to hide the shadow of the camera in your shadow portrait!!) Mary Beth does awesome work. 🙂
These photos (and your children) are gorgeous! Glad I found your blog. My husband and I are in the early stages of adoption.>>I’m a brand-new blogger, so please stop by and say hello if you get a chance.>>https://lupuspie.blogspot.com
Those are great pics. I particularly like the idea of the shadow picture. Very cool indeed.
I love your pics, the lighting is lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pix! Thanks for sharing.
I love those – especially the shadow ones! What a great idea!
I love these pics, particularly that you have body parts pics. The husband and I often do shadows, hands, feet – it’s kinda fun.>>The tessa and you one though is my fave.
I love the pictures–especially the one of the two of you in that high grass. They are so gorgeous. And artistic! Not the bland photos you get in the studio that don’t show the personality of the family.
No foot fungus. No hangnails. No beer bellies. >>Why do you guys have to be so d@mn perfect?
Cute Pics! 🙂
Wonderful pictures! Makes me want to visit the entire exhibit!

Those pics are gorgeous! Sadly, we’ve never had family portraits taken. That’s something I definitely need to get on the ball with, and I’d be a lot more eager to do it if I had a friend as great a photographer as yours! >>Lovely family!
Lori – Thank you so much for the comment on my blog! I hope we can stay in touch. 🙂

Your family pictures are incredible!! And nothing like my family’s Olan Mills pics from the 80’s! Hmmmm . . . now that might be a good piece of show and tell . . .>>I don’t know you, but she seems to have really captured personality and not just pasted on smiles (ala Olan Mills). Beautiful!
Those are wonderful! And you are gorgeous.
Fantastic photos! Much better than any studio poses.
Wonderful photos! I love the skinny shadows! I must remember to take pictures of our feet and hands. A different look at our lives.>>Alyson LID 01/27/06 IA China
