Perfect Moment Monday: We Get Up Again

Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than about creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

We gather here once a week to engage in mindfulness about something that is right with our world. Everyone is welcome to join. Details on how to participate are at the bottom of this post, complete with bloggy bling.

Please visit the links of the participants at the bottom.

Here’s a perfect moment from my week. I hope you’ll share yours, too.

====================================
It’s Saturday morning, 6 days since Roger came home from the hospital after The Ordeal.

Right after breakfast, Tessa and Reed are dancing to a mix CD I’d made for them years ago. They are hoe-downing with each other to Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping (“I get knocked down, but I get up again”). Their giggles are infectious, and Roger and I are only too happy to heed when they breathlessly command, “watch me!”

Segue to the next song. Tessa, with her winsome ways, says, “Dance with me, Daddy!”

As much as his broken ribs will let him, Roger Splish Splashes with his daughter, spinning and twirling her carefully while Reed and I cheer them on. The four of us are thrilled to be together on this sun-splashed morning, a day of promise and togetherness.

It’s joyous and my heart sings.

  1. A mix CD? You’re right, that must be from years ago.

That Tessa is a hard girl to refuse.

    Hooray Roger!

  2. Ouch. Go Roger!! I broke a rib snowboarding a few Christmases ago (the same trip where I purchased my snowboarding helmet, thanksverymuch) and I was absolutely useless afterwards. Breathing was about all I could handle, and that only with much whining.

  3. Ouch! I broke my ribs, or more likely one rib in two places, when I fell on a desert trail during a cross country run last summer.
It’s the laughing, sneezing, having a good time after you forget about your ribs that hurts.
But dancing… so glad he is dancing.
Glad you’ve got him home safe and sound.

  7. Oh, wow. If there is anything that can speed healing, it’s got to be that scene. As long as Roger doesn’t rebreak ribs from laughing and smiling. And dancing, of course.

  8. Amazing scene…a rethinking of gifts old and new…and TUBTHUMPING…I love that track.

The louder it is played, the better!

  9. Awww. Sweet, sweet man to dance with his kiddos in the midst of what has to be a fair amount of pain! I’m glad he’s home and that you get to share these perfect moments together.

  10. Oh Lori, that gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes! I understand the whole rib thing firsthand and think that Robger (still trying to transition to his real name..) is a wonderful daddy and husband.

    A Perfectly Perfect Moment!! :o)

  15. What a wonderful moment. I know there is still a lot of pain, but it must be so nice to be back on the road to normalcy.

  16. Love Melissa’s name–Robger! Perfect!

I love this moment! So happy for your whole family. Reading this gave me chills and made my day.

  21. Ahhh . . . what a wonderful, wonderful time. It makes me look forward to when LB – and hopefully a sibling – are a bit older.
