The Curious World of Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS

What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders?KURIOS, Cabinet of Curiosities

Summer brings space for family activities. There are SO many other people and happenings vying for our tween’s and teen’s attention; it’s nice when we can entice them to be with us. Willingly. Even excitedly.  My husband and I thought that would be the case when we were invited to see KURIOS, the Cirque du Soleil show currently playing in Denver through July 26.

Disclosure: we were guests of Cirque du Soleil.

I’d taken a curiosity quiz prior to the show that predicted I am most like Klara (left, below) because I am “quirky, stylish, eloquent and friendly.” Which KURIOS character are you?

My son complained during the entire drive to the Big Top. “Booorrrringg!!” he’d repeatedly whined, protesting that he had to attend (oh! the ways we torture him!). I tolerated his snottiness because I knew he was going to end up eating that word and I would have my own sweet and secret I-told-you-so moment.

Maybe I didn’t keep it so secret.

Of course, from the moment the lights went down, both he and his sister were rapt. All four of us loved each of the amazing feats we witnessed, things that can’t possibly happen but do happen right in front of your eyes.

Check out a sample yourself in this 15 second overview.

  1. So glad everyone had a good time! I know I was like that as a tween/teen when my parents were like “this will be fun!” Wish I would’ve loosened up and just enjoyed the moment more often. It’s great that they got into the show!

  2. I love Cirque du Soleil! Grey and I saw O and he’s seen Quidam. Both were amazing and have brought back the wonder of circus performances for both of us.

What I wonderful experience for your family. And glad R was eating the “B” word. 😉

  3. I got Microcosmos. Because I’m so paternal.

We went to one of these shows at Christmas time. I’m just amazed at how they do these things without tons of safety equipment beneath them.

  4. Wow! I’ve always wanted to see them … I suspect that my son would love it. Thanks for sharing your experience there!

(I’m Klara, too. The yoga question sealed it, I guess.)

  5. There is nothing like seeing Cirque de Soleil in person, something I did when I was 20 in Vegas with my dad and it STILL is clear in my memory. I’m glad your son ate his words and everyone was rapt… so hard not to be! Sounds like a wonderful time.
