Thanks to all of you who have subscribed to my new podcast, Adoption: The Long View. I so appreciate your feedback and comments and support. Keep ’em coming.
It’s a joy and a privilege to talk with people who are eager to explore the complexities of adoption and share their unique thoughts and perspectives.
Episode 102: Ashley Mitchell
This is why I’m so excited to unveil podcast episode 102. Joining me to talk about adoption from a birth mother perspective is Big Tough Girl Ashley Mitchell.
Anyone who knows Ashley knows she is a force. Ashley is founder of both BigToughGirl.com and the Lifetime Healing Foundation, as well as a HUGE advocate for ethics in adoption. She is fearless in “going there” for the tough conversations. In this podcast, Ashley speaks candidly about how her open adoption went from zero to 100 as she rose from her own ashes.
But Ashley’s work isn’t just about Ashley and her son and his parents. It’s about healing. Specifically, healing for moms who have placed. Ashley also works with adopting and adoptive parents in helping them to better understand the wider adoption experience, and in exploring what policies and practices do and don’t benefit the adopted person at the center.
You’ll want to hear Ashley’s best piece of advice for adoptive parents and why she thinks more and better adoption education is crucial for the parents on both sides of placement.
