On Your Radar: 4 Essential Adoption Resources For April

1. C.A.S.E Webinar on Executive Function

The Center for Adoption Support and Education offers a free Live Stream on Tuesday, April 26 as part of its Strengthening Your Family Webinar Series.

April’s webinar is Working with Executive Function Challenges in Foster and Adopted Children

“Along with attachment, loss, trauma and identity issues, many adopted and foster children struggle with executive function challenges, meaning that their brains can have difficulty with complex thinking, regulating feelings and impulses, and coordinating thoughts and feelings … Recommended interventions, for both parents and professionals, will be described.”

Registration is free here with coupon code EXECUTIVE at checkout.

2. AFFCNY’s Annual Conference (virtual)

Registration is now open for The Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York’s its 33rd annual conference. This year’s theme is Hurting, Hoping, Helping Healing. The conference takes place May 13 & 14.

Registration is $75 for both days, with access to all video recorded programming through August.

3. PACT Webinar: Adoptive Parent Voices

Pact An Adoption Alliance offers an April 27 webinar that “provides the lived experience of adoptive parents as well as some things we wished our younger selves had known and understood earlier. Expect an honest conversation about the challenges and the joys of parenting while remembering that hindsight is often 20/20. “

Registration is $36 for nonmembers and $27 for members. Sign up for the newsletter to be notified of monthly offerings, including summer camps for families.

4. Adoption Resources of JF&CS Virtual Workshop Series

I am presenting a 2-part series for Adoption Resources to support adopting and adoptive parents. Sessions take place virtually two Tuesday evenings next month: May 10th & May 24.

From the event invitation:

Does the concept of “open adoption” bring a tightening to your chest? Do you wonder if you’ll be up to all the complexity it brings? Are you tempted to wish for a simple and closed adoption?

In Part 1, you’ll learn basic principles of open adoption and connected adoptive parenting, and hear from triad members with real life experiences. In Part 2 we’ll get into how to handle common tricky situations.

There will be special guests — very special guests!

Registration is $45 per adoptive family log-in for both sessions.
